In comparison to the 1998 "100 top movies" from 1998, this list from a group of Aamulehti critics published on 09 February 2002 gives a different perspective. While the compilations are from different years, they are also from different nationalities. Note the Finnish movies that may be 'common knowledge' for Finns that would be unknown to most Americans. Note which of the American films from 1998 made the Aamulehti list and which didn't. Note also the greater inclusion of films from other countries in the Finnish list than in the American. Perhaps also note the lack of definition of "movie" in the Aamulehti list, as TV series, commercial advertisements, and thematic or actor collections of films are combined. Is this significant?

Of the top 20 films in the 1998 U.S. list, only 8 made the Aamulehti list, the highest-ranking being Casablanca at 23. Missing altogether from Aamulehti were such U.S. top-20 titles as Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, The Wizard of Oz, The Graduate, Schindler's List, It's a Wonderful Life, Bridge Over the River Kwai, and African Queen. Can conclusions be drawn from this?
