FAST-US-8 (TRENAK17) Power, Pride & Politics in American English
is an elective course in both the FAST and English Translation curricula.
US-1 Introduction to American English and US-2 U.S. Institutions Survey are prerequisite for US-8.
The focus of US-8 is on neologisms and terms of 'status distinction':
how U.S. social change is reflected by new lexical items in American
English, and how socioeconomic markers and referrals to particular
sociolects, ideolects and dialects are used to distinguish relationships
and points of view in American discourse.
