Printed CollectionsThe collections and services of Tampere University Library are free for all to use. The collections comprise approximately 570 000 volumes of various publications from all disciplines of the University. The collections of printed books and periodicals are located in Main Library, Humanika (Department of Humanities and Education), Tertio (Department of Health Sciences) and in the Unit in Hämeenlinna. The library database Tamcat includes information about both circulating and non-circulating information resources. The collections are found in open shelves on several floors and in storage areas. Tamcat- database tells the location of all items. The collections in Main Library comprise printed information resources - such as books, journals and other materials - mainly from the fields of information sciences, business and administration, social sciences, arts, music research and speech education. Main Library is also in charge of acquiring all text books excluding health sciences. Humanika acquires books and other information resources and develops collections mainly for the needs of the Humanities and Education faculties. The collection emphases are on history, English philology, Scandinavian languages, French language, German language and culture, Slavonic philology, Finnish language, linguistics, translation studies (English, German and Russian), literature history and criticism, and education. Tertio acquires information resources mainly in health sciences. Tertio functions also as the textbook library for Medical School, and so acquires the required books for the specialists' degrees. Library has the usage rights to several thousands of electronic journals, accessible through Nelli-portal . Also some printed journals are subscribed to, but emphasis is on electronic journals.
